Watercolour is to me an almost magical medium because it is quick, instant and spontaneous. By practice you can learn its features so well that you can control it and other times you can create magic by letting it run free. Both techniques the controlled and the emotional can give results in beautiful paintings with a lot of emotion in it. The pictures are details of paintings from todays class at Studio Miu. I like the use if negative space in contrast to the flowers and the flow in the picture and I also love the shape of the boats and how the tones are slowly being built up. I have been teaching boutique art classes in collage art for a while now and it still amazes me what you can create into a collage. The same ground rules as to all art applies for collage as for color palette, focal points, negative space, texture, form, rhythm and contrast. What I like is that you can play around with your elements before gluing them onto your paper or canvas. In a matter of seconds you can change and redo your composition. Creating more layers adds more texture and often a patina which can be beautiful in a delicate way. Collage art is all about joining pieces to each other in a new way that follows your rhythm and your storyline. It reminds me of a mosaic. I have decided to do a series of artist’s that inspire me. The first one is the Canadian artist Barbara Ariss Stroh Wasser. I met her in Singapore a short while ago, and she told me again that she had always wanted an interesting life and that is what she got. She had a life so far that I think that most people would look upon as a great adventure, it would make a great movie. This also shows in her art, she has NO boundaries when experimenting. The more workshops I do connect to color the more evident it is to me that color is extremely important to us and very personal. It is connected to our memories and we are often quite aware of how they work with our moods. In Studio Miu yesterday, one if the challenges were childhood colors a talented local artist painted the colors that I relate to Scandinavia and she used to read a lot of storybooks from Europe with pictures that reminded her of the forest from my childhood.  The use of negative space can also be wonderful in abstract pieces which is shown in details from two of the paintings made with straw and palette knife. Acrylic is a very versatile medium that can be used to create everything from a delicate transparent feeling of the heavy thick body of color. Park Royal was a great setting for an art experience. It was not always easy to hang the art in the rooms, but it made the experience very intimate and it leads to many interesting discussions with the exhibitors. A lot of artists were present as Susan Pauli and Deusa Blumke from Singapore, that had beautiful paintings on glass and canvas. A view from the bathroom in the presidential suite. Interesting discussion with Korean artist Im Goo Noo about his art. He explained how he after a few years of painting started to ignore what buyers looked for and just painted for pleasure from within. Since then he is much happier and he has become one of the leading contemporary artists in Korea. I was impressed by his use of texture, and his creative visions. Art Apart Fair was fun, exciting and approachable. You could find art and sculptures in many price ranges, some every affordable .
